Cost-Efficiency Analysis of Emission Reduction Under Varying Leak Detection Frequencies

This paper presents a comprehensive cost-efficiency analysis of emission reduction under varying leak detection frequencies, focusing on the balance between environmental benefits and economic costs. Leak detection frequency significantly influences the volume of emissions mitigated, with more frequent monitoring enabling quicker leak identification and repair. However, increasing detection frequency entails higher capital and operational expenses, creating a trade-off between enhanced emission control and financial feasibility. Through a theoretical examination of emission sources, leak characteristics, and cost components, the study explores the nonlinear relationship between detection intervals and emission reductions. It further discusses the comparative advantages and limitations of low-, medium-, and high-frequency detection strategies, emphasizing the diminishing returns associated with very frequent monitoring. The findings underscore the importance of optimizing detection schedules to maximize environmental gains per unit cost. Implications for regulatory policy and industrial practice are highlighted, and adaptive frameworks and economically informed monitoring decisions are advocated. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research to refine analytical models and assess emerging detection technologies within a cost-efficiency context. This work aims to inform sustainable emission management by integrating environmental and economic considerations in leak detection strategies.
